Art Manifestos were considered a passe thing, part of the now old - TopicsExpress

Art Manifestos were considered a passe thing, part of the now old Modernist avant-garde used directly as a political tool. Apparently because of the internet there has been a resurgence. My view: We dont need them. Its all been said and done. Old wine in new wine skins. Who can stand anymore pompous rhetoric intended for cheap shock value, and overtly stated superiority from writers and artists over the status quo. Blah, blah, blah, the revolution is over. We won our rights for artistic freedom. Today anything goes and todays artist are free, and expected, to work in multiple disciplines and styles. Why limit your creativity to any one style, or aesthetic or even one vehicle of expression. You want to write about your art, then do it, but please spare us the manifestos innate qualities like your politics, your self proclaimed superiority, and overtly opinionated non-inclusive views on what art should be. Today art manifestos seem like arrogant attempts by egotistical artists trying to hide an underlying deficiency or insecurity in their artistic abilities and/or creativity. At best it will be a nauseating read ripe with targets to poke holes into, and worse it will most likely make you appear to be an idiot rebelling against a contemporary system of art where anything goes and with a growing healthy environment where all flowers can bloom. Who wants to be against the flowering of artistic modes flourishing because of hard won artistic freedoms? Good luck.
