Art, the one word that defines Keera Ratnam. From bush stroke to the small splatters of paint, she uses her artwork as a tool to educate what has happened to her people, homeland and her identity. From a very young age she used art as a way of expressing her deepest thoughts and feelings. Through out her teens she learned to educate her self about the history of the Tamil Eelam struggle, and learned the richness of her culture. She learned classical dance, music, veenai, and enhanced her language skills and became a Tamil teacher. The purpose for me to learn about my culture was not just for my own sake, she would always say, but so that I can express them in the form of a drawing or painting. As a teacher, she learned that her knowledge from the fine arts is what kept her motivated to draw, and enabled her to become more creative. She used artwork to teach her students what has happened, and expressed feelings that cannot be shared through words. In October 2012 she created an art company called Waves of Colour, which signifies how art travels in waves as it touches the surface of the earth spreading not just nationally but globally. Art is universal she would say, it has no language and no boundaries. It is understood by all and felt and expressed by everyone. Let your talent be the reason to do, help and change the world, as it is in your hands to change the world and in your minds to create that change. As an artist she identifies her self as not just a painter or an art lover but as an Eelam Tamil artist. It is my identity and thats the reason I brought out my talent. The world is my canvas, my talent is my paint brush and Tamil Eelam shall forever be my concept. I shall paint away to let it be free.
