Article By Brigitte I am a relatively new quilter. I made my first quilt seven years ago and have never left the fabric store since. I am amazed at how social quilting is, even though we sit at a sewing machine and work on our own projects somehow there is a sense of community. Just ask and there is never a shortage of opinions when choosing colors, patterns, a new job or boyfriend. Quilters are a unique bunch we are all various ages, come from different backgrounds and walks of life, but we have one thing in common, a passion for creating. Taking sewing lessons and sewing with others has taught me so much these past seven years. I have learned many lessons that I not only apply in quilting but in my everyday life. If you don’t like what you are doing, throw it in the closet. If you find fabric you love, always buy more than you think you need. No one can see your mistake as clearly as you do. Pin, Pin, Pin or you will have to rip, rip, rip. Finishing a project gives you such a good feeling you will start 3 more. Never leave a rotary cutter open! Invest in a crock pot The more gadgets you have the easier the job, and you look cool doing it. Everyone can use a quilt. Never use your Gingher scissors for anything other than fabric. When some one makes a mistake help them fix it, next time it might be you. Making something beautiful for charity makes you feel good. You can always find something you like in other peoples work. Measure twice, cut once (then swear out loud when you make the mistake anyway) Do things in a group, healing happens when people come together. Sewing Classes are cheaper than Therapy, so find your local quilt shop and sign up today. SEE YOU THERE!
