Article Corner: The recent happenings may make Malaysias founding fathers turn in their graves. The minister in charge of peoples security openly supported a secret society of gangsters. Theres the so-called concept of 1Malaysia but 2Allah. Malaysian Chinese and Indians are regularly asked to leave the country. Political parties are more keen on fighting for assets and positions than serving the people. Tainted leaders dont fade away - they come back stronger. Through all these, the Prime Minister and DPM maintain their not-so-elegant silence. Those in the lower rungs who do speak up are powerless and largely ignored. What hope is there for Malaysia and our children, you may ask? - Clement Hii Malaysia falling into the Dark Ages It is truly shocking to learn that after 56 years of independence, the country is now said to be run by secret societies, gangsters and thugs. While most other countries that achieved independence at the same time are being governed by dedicated and able minded people Malaysia is regressing. Malaysia is falling into the Dark Ages each day as the country falls into the clasp of hoodlums. This is not a secret any more as it has been made clear by no other than the man in charge of internal security of the country himself. This confession must have been sanctioned by the top leadership as this man who himself exhibits gangster-like traits and behaviour did so openly. Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidis alleged support for the Tiga Line gang is most shocking. He single handedly had cleared this mob although his ministry had termed this group a secret society which in general terms means that they are considered as gangsters. He had, however, not identified who the patron of this secret society was. To be able to sanction such a group in such an open manner is a clear indication that this government condones acts of terrorism and also places these elements that are fundamentally dangerous to the nation as being heroic in their actions. To quote Malaysian Chronicle’s article entitled Tiga Line not thugs, he said: The 6,171 Malays, they are not real thugs (samseng), they were Pekida members and were part of the Tiga Line group, Gang 30, Gang 7 - these are festivities (kenduri-kendara) gangsters... I tell our Tiga Line friends, do what should be done, he said to loud cheers from the room. Tiga Line is among a list of 49 secret societies released by the Home Ministry in August and declared unlawful. Zahid then continued to refer to Tiga Line on a first-person basis, stating: We are not evil, I know, I have checked. We gather during festivals with our siblings, we gather when there are projects, never mind. I see here, the candidates here, all four of them are Tiga Line, he laughingly said. Zahid had in his speech repeatedly referred to Umno supreme council candidate Shahidan Kassim, who was also present, as the biggest Tiga Line gangster, in a joking manner. He had not denied the above report. This is not a laughing matter and nor can it be treated as a joke. If he was joking, this must be the most immoral and vulgar joke ever uttered by a minister. Never in my experience with all the other previous prime ministers’ cabinet ministers have I ever met a character as horrendous as this. Those men that he had mentioned were all holding important portfolios in the government. While proscribing other secret societies as being dangerous and anti-national, he, however, was proud of this Tiga Line secret society. It is not necessary that a secret society must be formed just to take part in weddings and other such celebrations. It is just the civic duty of any sensible individual to help and assist on such occasions if he or she is part of the organizers. There must be more than meets the eye as he did not elaborate on what he meant by asking the members to carry on as they should. And to add insult to injury, the prime minister simply kept silent to all the antics and unprofessional behaviour of his ministers. Silence on his part would mean that he had blessed all these statements. We are supposed to be moving towards the 2020 goal of achieving developed nation status. It will definitely not happen with this sort of roguish behaviour displayed by those who have been entrusted to sanely administer the country. And at the same time the country introduced the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA) which again would take the country backwards. This government is very fond of enacting provisions whereby a person can be detained without trial for a period of two years. It was the prime minister who promised the nation that he would not condone any law that would restrict human rights but as usual what he had said, he would always act contrary to it. Malaysia has had enough of maladministration and now to subject the country to a regime manned by gangsters and hoodlums would put to an end all the hopes and aspirations that the founding fathers had fought for and had hoped for the people. Administrating and governing a country is no laughing matter. It is serious business. If these secret society members felt that they had no positive vision on governing Malaysia and had no inclination as to how vicious racial statements could be, then the alternative is to give the mandate back to the people.
