Article: I woke up this morning in Mississippi with questions – lots of them. After last night’s defeat of Chris McDaniel, I realized that there is no limit to what politicians might do to get elected or stay in office. Maybe it’s quaint, maybe it’s naïve, but there’s been a line that even the most ambitious of politicians never crossed, at least among Republicans. Chicago-style politics and voter intimidation at voting precincts, like what we saw by members of the Black Panthers at polling sites in 2008, were only tactics used by those on the left. Until yesterday. Letters and robocalls targeted Urban Democrat voters telling them it was ok for them to vote in the runoff election even if they voted Democrat in the past was ok. They were also told they could go back to voting Democrat in the November General Election. These have no been made public. Rumors of Black Pastors encouraging voters in Democrat strong counties to vote for Thad Cochran are growing stronger. Fliers passed around social media spread fear that the Tea Party is going to be intimidating folks not to vote at the polls were not only widely spread, but completely false. There are hundreds of GOP campaign consultants and lobbyists who are today patting each other on the back or toasting each other with champagne at their victory. But at the risk of spoiling their merriment, I have one question to ask them: Do you understand the Pandora’s box you might have just opened? The tactics deployed by liberals are now apparently used by Republicans like Thad Cochran. Whenever conservatives and Republicans call out voter intimidation and corrupt politics in the future, we’ll be rightfully called out for throwing stones at our opponents from a glass house. We know Democrats use machine politics and corruption to manipulate results, but just like they have done with the issue of infidelity and are quick to throw the name of Mark Sanford into any article on family values, we can expect the same to occur in regards to the issue of integrity at the voter box. There is very little doubt that Thad Cochran and the Beltway Bandits won this round, but only because they turned out Democrats in an open primary. Instead of Republicans deciding the Republican nominee, we had pandering to big government spending and earmarks to attract Democrats. After Tuesday night’s runoff election and the way in which the Cochran campaign resorted to votes, party unity is as far away as it has ever been. What type of Republican Party has been spawned when we now know that those in leadership would rather recruit Democrats than those within their own Party? It will take a superhero, someone even more compelling than a Ronald Reagan, to heal these divisions, and to put the Republican Party back together, to pull it out of the Mississippi mud in which it will remain bogged. In the meantime, while we wait for our modern day Reagan to emerge, it should be the job of the RNC, led by Chairman Reince Priebus and the committeemen and women, to quickly bring order back to the chaos which has now been allowed to emerge within our Party. They need to publicly express their official disproval of recruiting Democrat voters to manipulate a Republican primary. While it might be too late for the McDaniel campaign to receive justice, their loss Tuesday night would not be in vain, as it might be the perfect lightning bolt to jolt our Party back so that we may remain the Grand Ole Party of honesty and true representation.
