Article from Inspector Phil Brooks - Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Service World Day of Rembrance for Road Traffic Victims Those that have lost loved ones in traffic crashes gathered with NSW Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, & RFS at the Wollondilly Shire Council Offices at Picton to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The gathering was welcomed by Mayor (Cr) Benn Banasik and Cr Judy Hannan. The Hon Jai Rowell MP, State Member for Wollondilly spoke about his anguish at receiving phone calls about crashes involving local community members. Mr Alan Burton spoke about losing his father & brother in separate crashes. Belinda Sidman spoke about her recovery from a crash and her life changing experiences in equestrian and water skiing, all of which leading up to her studying nursing in reflection of those nurses that cared for her, so she too could care for others. Minister Ray Law of Bargo spoke about losing his father to dementia, and at least having the chance to say good by, which he acknowledged was not afforded to those that have lost loved ones to crashes. Throughout the ceremony the gathering were warmed by the music of the Wollondilly Anglican College Strings & Rhythm Section, conducted by Mr Lloyd Grant, featuring soloist Georgia Davis. The gathering concluded with gerbras being handed out for the benefit of quiet reflection on the pain of those that have lost loved ones in road traffic crashes. Congratulations to Wollondilly Council, staff & community members for hosting this important event.
