Article in todays Adirondack Daily Enterprise: By SHAUN KITTLE TUPPER LAKE - State police are investigating the death of a German shepherd they think was intentionally drowned. Trooper Reinaldo Alvarez said fishermen found the dog along the side of the Raquette River, near a boat launch on state Route 30. They reported it to police around 8 a.m. Friday, June 20. The 75-pound animal had a cinder block tied to its neck with a rope. Alvarez said the investigation, which is ongoing, is being conducted by state police with the help of the Tupper Lake village police and the state Department of Environmental Conservation. There was no name on the collar or anything, Alvarez said. Were looking to see if somebody is either missing a dog or happens to have a neighbor who mysteriously doesnt have a dog anymore. Were pretty much looking for any information we can get. Dan Bain, who works in Lake Placid, told the Enterprise that people have been rallying for justice for the German shepherd. He organizes the Joshua Fund, which provides financial assistance for local dogs that need medical treatment, and it also raises money to save dogs from high-kill shelters. Bain created a Facebook page Thursday night called Justice for Tupper the German Shepherd. It already has almost 600 likes. The Facebook page is just to provide information and a place for people to air their disdain, Bain said. First and foremost, though, it is for gathering information. Oftentimes, animal cruelty cases are swept under the rug or forgotten about. Bain said a Facebook conversation last night sparked an idea to offer a reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the German shepherds death. He said about 20 people have contributed money to the reward, which is up to about $2,000. Anyone with information should contact the state police at 518-897-2000.
