Articles like this one frustrate both my academic and advocacy sensibilities. Academic discourse and knowledge has a bad reputation for existing in an echo chamber. It doesnt have to, but it does when academics are out of touch with target audiences beyond other academics. Zolver writes that we should communicate feminism simply and accessibly as a complex, reflexive, and discursive system of power structures with the ability to both oppress and liberate. Which one of those buzzwords is supposed to be accessible again, considering that the campaign target audience includes those who need to be first convinced that feminism is not a dirty word? Academics are good at being right, but this does not matter unless they take up the challenge of also being relevant.
