Articulated Damsel Fly Nymph - The first time I saw an articulated Damsel Fly pattern was in 1984. Stu Thompson of Winnipeg Manitoba had sent me out a few patterns. They were at that time revolutionary , unique and very effective on our local lakes. The articulated body took care of the snake like undulations that the natural nymphs showed during swimming and migrational movements prior to hatching. The other way to show an undulation type movement is to use a loop knot at the fly. Both work effectively well to install this type of motion. This style of nymph often is fished near the surface during migrations and is very effective on a long leader of 15 to 18 feet with a 4x to 6X tippet behind and floating or an Intermediate line. This type of a pattern from June to August is extremely effective. Keep them near the surface when you have Damsel Fly hatches or visible migrations. Often as you observe the water surface on lakes you will see them swimming near the surface, but usually not in large quantities.
