Artist Development There is currently a fantastic opportunity for local artists to work with two professional companies in the run up to Night of Festivals in October. Click for more details. Workshops and masterclasses are taking place very soon in preparation for Night of Festivals Touring which is coming to Boston in October, and Transported are especially keen to get as many people involved as possible who are from Boston Borough and South Holland. Carnival Participants Fancy being part of the carnival? During the festival, there will be a series of small carnival events that will happen in different places leading up to the main site, Central Park. Transported are looking for volunteer performers and dancers to be a part of them. This is a great opportunity to get a taste of public performance, practice your performance skills and work with one of the leading UK carnival arts companies – Mandinga Arts. Leading up to the festival volunteers need to attend two weekend workshops on 28th and 29th September and 5th and 6th October at the Assembly Rooms in Boston, where they will work with experienced members of Mandinga Arts on costume, movement and performance and be allocated their own special carnival costume. The workshops are free of charge and no previous experience is necessary – all you need is high energy and enthusiasm! There is also the opportunity for one strong male performer to animate a giant skeleton puppet as part of the carnival (see attached picture). To sign up, please contact Rosie on [email protected] or call 07747 271820. Musicians A unique and exciting opportunity is available for all musicians based in Boston Borough and South Holland area. As part of the preparation for Night of Festivals Touring the nationally renowned Paraiso School of Samba are heading our way to hold masterclasses for local musicians (paraisosamba.co.uk). Musicians who take part in the masterclasses will go on to play a part of Night of Festivals. This is an amazing opportunity for local musicians to work with Sambaists who are masters of their craft and to get involved in a new and exciting carnival event. And the best part is – if you live in Boston Borough or South Holland – it is completely free (if you don’t live in the area, you can still take part – but there is a small fee of £25). Masterclasses are taking place on 22nd September, 29th September and 2nd October, in Boston. Ideally you need to be available for all of these dates but if you are interested and not able to make all of them, please do still get in touch. For more information and to book a place, contact Laura at [email protected] or call 07747 271825. Face Painting and Body Adornment Transported are also on the look out for twenty members of the community who would like to learn more about face painting and body adornment in a masterclass before the festival, who will then go on to show off their new skills as part of the Night of Festivals event itself (as part of the Transported team). No experience is necessary. There are two masterclasses which place on Saturday 5 October at Blackfriars Arts Centre in Boston, one from 10am to 12pm, or 1pm to 3pm. Participants will be paid for their time at the festival itself, and will work shifts between 10.30am and 5.30pm. The workshops are free of charge for those that live in Boston Borough and South Holland district – a fee of £25 applies for those that live in other areas. If you would like to take part, please contact Natalie on [email protected]. Transported are also looking for volunteers to be stewards at the event. If you would like to be part of the Transported team for the weekend, then please contact the Transported office on 01406 701006 or email [email protected]. As part of the programme, Transported is going to be running training, mentoring and shadowing schemes for local artists. Opportunities will be posted here as soon as we have them – keep checking for updates!
