Artist Statement: I like to think of my photography as a form - TopicsExpress

Artist Statement: I like to think of my photography as a form of artistic documentation and esthetic statements of fact. People, places, and things are what they are, and typically, they are much more beautiful than we realize or care to notice. My subject matter is typically comprised of architecture, people, and organics. Through black and white photography I am able to remove these subjects from their environments and to portray the beauty of their intrinsic values through thoughtful composition. I don’t like to dress things up, or make them into something that they are not. My technique is minimal. Otherwise the true meaning of the subject is lost in fabricated grandeur and becomes a lie. Every subject I photograph has a deeper meaning to me, and I try to incorporate the story of each subject through careful titles that describe their most basic essence. My objective with my work is to force the viewers to just slow down, stop even, and ask themselves why they never noticed just how beautiful a leaf can be, or a flower, or a person, or a building. I hope they discover the common beauty in their own lives they have been ignoring all along.
