Artist of all sorts have a ritual of writing a letter to a friend - TopicsExpress

Artist of all sorts have a ritual of writing a letter to a friend about one thing or another that matters, and before long, like priming a pump to a well with water from a bucket, as they push that lever that applies pressure on a tube that falls 100 yards into the ground until it touches an aquifer of pure, clean, cool water, causing the water to rise to the surface of a dry world...in this way an artist pulls the creative spirit from within and out into form. And so, my friends, I write you a letter to inspire my spirit to create something beautiful while in my studio tonight. Saturday night is the heart, the center of my work week. Yup. It is when I get most of my work projects done. I meet with students who walk away kind a dazzled by the words we shared, ready, really and truly prepared to take yet one step more into the world they wished they could have before we met. Before we met they wished but felt that ultimately their wishes would never come true. They would not come true, my students believed, like most every person I have met, because they had failed at attempting to make their wishes true so many times. Now they know they can have that world they dreamed of. Imagine that. Every time I meet with these friends I call students I watch as they tell me about hopes lost, dashed, broken, crumpled, like dust, gone. And then those dreams, they come back to life as we talk over cups of coffee or tea about how they make a call, write a letter, make an inquiry, get a little courage, find their confidence and suddenly a passion has come to life. Each time I meet with my students I have no idea what they will say next. Nor what I will say in response. Yet, at the end of every session I find myself quietly stunned by what just happened. That was my day today. Then at night, like tonight, I create these paintings that inspire me to write stories. But before I start another painting session, I want to share a thought. It is about friends of the highest level. The friends who really care about if you are strong and happy, or sad and a little broken. Soul mates. Sometimes they take on the relationships of brothers and sisters, sometimes pals and friends, and sometimes business partners and neighbors. And occasionally, if you are really listening and if you are prepared, they will step into the your world as a lover to which we make declarations of eternal love and we marry those ones. In all forms, those are soul mates, those people who can see into our inner world. When we meet them we know it. We know it because we realize that we are there for just one reason. Every person is working hard to become a person they only dream of in the dark quiet night. In that place we see ourselves accomplishing a task we thought frightening, yet something deeply satisfying. A soulmate sees our life not as a static thing, like a picture on a wall, but as a river of energy with terrific power. They also see all our failings, but not as failings. Rather they see them as damns. As blocks preventing us to reaching our dreams. They have shown up to help you find your dream again, break down that block, and allow the river of you own life to flow. If you happen to have had the fortune of meeting a soulmate, someone who likes you for how you think, how you regard those near you, how you appreciate and speak to your dog or your cat, or your neighbors dog or cat, then dont ignore them. They have just shown up to help you to your next big dream. And when they do help you enter that world you thought impossible to enter, a place where your broken heart got healed, your business dreams became restored, you broken body regained health, dont leave them behind. Remember that like you, they have come far to find you. Long before they even knew your name they had an inkling of what you would look like, how you spoke, the way you would walk, so that they could identify you. When you meet them if you searched their pockets you would discover a crumbled map that had scribbles starting on the date and location of their origin and then you would see an X at another part of the map. The X would be the point at which their treasure would be found. The way you know if the one you are speaking to is your soul mate is when you pull out your own crumbled up piece of map and put it next to theirs. If your point of the X is the same location as where their X rests...well then. How much proof will you tolerate before your mind will relinquish its selfish hold and let your heart take back the steering wheel. When you meet a soul mate say thanks. Two nights ago I went to my nephews play and watched as he performed Julius Caesar. He was filled with the thoughts of someone whose dreams have just begun with stumbling. Someone brilliant. When I went back to the house, the whole family celebrated with quiet exclamations of, Wow. and words like that as my nephew blushed and said, Shucks. Last night I went to other nephews play as he played Young Frankensteins outrageously funny Monster. At the end of the curtain call the monster came up and hugged me saying, Stevie. And all the audience said, Amen. We went back his parents house and smiled and looked at each other like friends who have finally found the Xs that met in that house last night. I am going back to my studio and complete my new painting: She Aims. From my historical fiction novel, Water Dancer. Enjoy your day off. Whewf. I gotta go to work you lucky dogs. ;) https://youtube/watch?v=iWrIjN27w_M movingfastsittingstill.net
