Artistic views by Michelle Kaplan Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but the same could be said with art; it’s all about what you see. Find out what two renowned art collectors see, think and feel as they discuss the secrets behind their personal art collections as the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County hosts their It’s What You See Luncheons. Guests include Ambassador Nancy Brinker on Jan. 5 and philanthropist Beth Rudin DeWoody on Feb. 9. “The Cultural Council’s It’s What You See Luncheons are the perfect opportunity to hear from extraordinary collectors about the artwork they own and love, and their motivation and insights about personal favorites, said Rena Blades, president and CEO of the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. Jan. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nancy Brinker – former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary and most recognized as the founder of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure – will discuss her extensive collection of Hungarian art. The collection spans a century, from just before the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to present day. Several museums around the United States have displayed this significant collection, as it is one of the largest outside of Hungary. Feb. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Beth DeWoody – collector, curator and philanthropist – will give her thoughts on the process of cultivating young and emerging artists and how to help shape their careers. DeWoody is the president of the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation and executive vice president of Rudin Management Company. She will also share her art-collecting philosophy and vast experience with buying art. DeWoody has curated shows in art galleries in New York, New Orleans and Palm Beach. In addition, the Norton Museum will be presenting an exhibition, “The Triumph of Love: Beth DeWoody Collects,” Feb. 8 – May 3, 2015. Proceeds from the luncheon will go toward programs that support artists in Palm Beach County. Both luncheons will be held at the Cultural Council headquarters at 601 Lake Ave. in Lake Worth. Tickets are $125 per person. For more information or to reserve a seat, call (561) 472-3342, email at ksmiley@palmbeachculture, or visit palmbeachculture. Valet parking will be provided.
