Artists and bands, let talk about recording...what should it - TopicsExpress

Artists and bands, let talk about recording...what should it really cost you to record in Nashville for a full blown 10 song cd, im talking studio time, cost of 7 players, engineer, back ground vocals, recording you vocal, over dubs and mixing? In my humble experience you get what you pay for...if you are just going in by your self, no producer and the engineer is taking direction from you, then all in about $800-1000 usd per song. If you have an up an coming producer you can add about $500 to 1000 per song for their time and effort, if the producer is mid tier about $2000 -5000 per song you will have to add to your base line of $1000 per song, and top producers if you can get one, $5000 and up. some producers will take points and percentages on the back end meaning they take or get money from CD sales or publishing. So if you do the CD on your own it will be about $10,000, a good cd produced by someone else you should be about to do a stellar project for about $25000-30,000. Remember to budget you need money to press the CD, and you need a ton of money for promotion, touring and merchandising, it is VERY VERY tough but it can be done. Any questions, feel free to ask!
