Artists who wear masks and makeup are pretty stupid the only exceptions would be Slipknot Lordi KISS. They express themselves with a guise, not hide behind them whilst promoting the gangsta culture and depravity among zombie-like impressionable youths like two unnamed groups you all know. Masks were used by Samurai in wartime to give the warrior the appearance of fanged demons. This is the use of guise to intimidate. The modern use of masks and makeup in music probably goes back to the use of masks as symbols or idols of deities. The village elder or shaman, priest, monk, or what-have-you would put on the image of the deity to arouse worship and psychologically imbue the images and therefore culture into the minds of youth attending the ritual. The impressionable minds would then be less likely to worship other deities giving more control to those using the guise. This use is manipulation and is how they imbue messages of decadence and depravity into minds of todays youth. If they dont use masks they will use a outrageous outfit or routine to lul simple minds into a hypnosis a susceptible state to their propaganda. You see this commonly with pop music. Idols my ass!
