Artstudio J is the studio and exhibition space of painter, sculptor and ceramicist Johanna Hildebrandt. This short video captures the creation of a stunning painting. I enjoyed it immensely and thought Id share it with you. ~ jane. Johanna Hildebrandt studied fine art at a German art school before moving to Australia at the age of nineteen in the 1970s. After raising a family and assisting her husband in building his business, she started painting in 1980. Johanna’s work focuses on nature and wildlife, conveying the beauty of birds and animals in their natural environment. Until recently, Johanna has been working in acrylics on canvas, painting lush tropical landscapes inspired by ideas of the exotic, in a self-proclaimed ‘naive’ style. In the past few years Johanna’s work has taken a sharp turn. Experiences of travelling in the Australian outback sparked Johanna’s desire to recreate the elemental nature of the Australian landscape. She felt that ceramics provided a direct connection to the earth and has recently completed a five year diploma of ceramics.
