Mesopotamia had its own flood myth, mentioned in the Epic Of Gilgamesh. Most of it precedes the Biblical story of Noah. The Greek story of Deucalion tells the same story. There are many hypothesis regarding a real flood that might have taken place, most prominent being that of a giant worldwide Tsunami that happened as an aftereffect of a meteor crashing into the Indian Ocean, which might have lead to the deluge myth, but one thing which cant be undermined is the fact that almost all Abrahamic religions derived its myths from earlier stories found in the ancient civilisations, mostly from Eqypt and India. Thats why, the fact that monotheists are the most vocal lot concerning the validity and actuality of their texts, makes it all the more funnier, as most of it is borrowed !! And I dont mean to undermine any particular religion, as I only have malice and nothing else towards all religions !! To me, Abraham and Krishna are nothing more than ancient Gandalfs and Valmiki, a more evolved version of Tolkien. The similarities of these ancient texts, irrespective of geography, only proves its falsehood and makes this entire religion based one-upmanship obsolete. However, it does have philosophical value and people can actually learn a lot from such texts if they stopped taking it on face value. Another interesting fact was the addition of the character Illa in the film. Illa has no mention in either the Bible or the Koran. However, Illa is mentioned as the daughter of Vaivastava Manu, who as i mentioned before is the Vedic counterpart of Noah. Aronofsky added that character as Noahs adopted daughter in the film. At least someone was paying attention to the real source material :)
