Arvind Kejriwal, the self appointed messiah of Delhi released his manifesto yesterday. Bijli bills will be cut by half and water will be free. Reminds me of a play I watched when I was a kid calledAndher Nagri, Chaupat Raja. The rest of the manifesto seems to reflect this same immature and populist thought process. While I am no great fan of red tapism, I shudder to think how rule by Mohalla Sabhas will pan out. Isnt this the modernisation of Khap in a way? Where will his commando force come from? will it not be sourced from the very talent pool that comprises the Delhi Police, that he can not trust? What in any of his manifesto demonstrates new thinking? How will he leverage the ever growing migrant population of Delhi to contribute to its economic prosperity? 700 litres of water shall be distributed per family every day, he says, of course forgetting to mention where that water will come from. Unfortunately, water unlike Kejriwals promises is a finite resource. Most importantly, how does he intend to end corruption? We and hopefully he, have now learnt that the Delhi legislative assembly does not have the powers to pass the Jan Lokpal panacea for Delhi, leave alone the rest of the country, so how will he deliver the biggest promise that he has made? Or will he, once elected stop making promises and start making excuses? Andher Nagri, Chaupat Raja, Takaa Ser Bhaaji, Takaa Ser Khaa Jaa.
