Aryanisation of modern Koshal as well as most of the parts of Old - TopicsExpress

Aryanisation of modern Koshal as well as most of the parts of Old Utkal and old Kalinga happened from West/north direction. The modern Koshal is remnant of old Koshal, which has been differentiated into many parts. New Koshal is but one of the parts of old Koshal, whose language was Avadhi/Koshali. The footprint of Avadhi on Koshali/Sambalpuri is unmistakable So what the excerpt insists does not contradict the modern concept of Koshal. Destinies and political boundaries of states are subject to various vicissitudes in history. Undivided Sambalpur including the parts which remained in modern Chhattisgarh were all called Sambalpur. Now we are not only fragmented in terms of provincial boundary but also within the Odisha. The only way we can survive as a relatively homogenous political/cultural/linguistic entity is not as Sambalpur but as Koshal. We can not unmake an omelette, and put it into shell of the egg. Nobody will take away the rich history of Sambalpur. But to move forward, we have to move in unison as Koshalis, whose language is Koshali and whose identity is with emerging Koshal state. -----------Dr Arjun Purohit
