As CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported on Wednesday, Colin Kaepernick no longer has to pay the $11,025 fine he was given for using inappropriate language in a game against the Bears. The NFL reduced the fine to $5,512 after Kaepernick won his appeal. The fine was handed down because Kaepernick allegedly used the N-word in a game. Kaepernick has maintained all along that he never used the N-word and an NFL arbitrator agreed with him. So if Kaepernick was fined for using the N-word and an arbiter agrees that he didnt use it, then why is he still being fined? Thats exactly what Kaepernick wants to know. If youre going to say I used a racial slur and come back and say I didnt say it, then I dont know what Im being fined for, Kaepernick said on Wednesday, via CSNBayArea. The 49ers quarterback also took to Twitter to express his displeasure. The face you make when the NFL says you didnt use a racial slur and still fines you $5500? *shrugs*… t.co/IxjF2ib3Np — Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) October 15, 2014 According to the NFL, the $5,512 is for using profanity. That doesnt make any sense to George Atallah, the NFLPAs assistant executive director of external affairs also thinks the fine should have been completely erased. Our union is disappointed that the fine of @Kaepernick7 was not eliminated given the finding there was no racial slur used. — George Atallah (@GeorgeAtallah) October 15, 2014 Should Kaepernick have been fined? You can judge for yourself below. The CBS affiliate in San Francisco has video of Kaepernicks comments. If Kaepernick was fined for saying the N-word and he didnt say the N-word, then the NFL probably shouldnt fine him. Instead, the league came up with a different fine, which doesnt set a great precedent. This wont be the last you hear of Kaepernick and the appeals process. The 49ers quarterback is also appealing the $10,000 fine he was given for wearing Beats by Dre headphones in a press conference. Kaepernick said he was wearing the pink headphones to support breast cancer awareness.
