As Chair of the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Bermuda Foundation, I am pleased to invite you to attend the 9th International African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference 2013 scheduled to take place 9th – 12th October. For the first time in its history, the African Diaspora Heritage Trail (ADHT) International Conference, will be held in the United States of America. The ADHT Bermuda Foundation and the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission are collaborating together to host the 9th Annual ADHT Conference in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA 9th – 12th October 2013. This year’s theme, “THE JOURNEY OF THE CREOLES: Seeking The Promised Land” will address such pertinent topics as Louisiana’s linguist and cultural amalgamation; the impact of slaves and sugar in the United States, the Caribbean and Africa and the impact of the Creole culture on the music and dance in the Southern US states. You will have the opportunity to explore the connections between the various cultures that make up Lafayette, Louisiana and their connections to the African Diaspora. Countries and organisations interested in hosting future International African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conferences will find this year’s programme exciting. Delegates can interact with our renowned presenters and international panelists. It will also be an opportunity to solicit advice from esteemed experts from countries around the Diaspora, particularly from countries and organisations that have hosted the Conference previously. Examples include the Ministries of Tourism in the Bahamas (2007), Tanzania (2009) and Barbados (2012), as well as the Association of Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs, Canada (2012). The ADHT Bermuda Foundation and its International Conferences gained further acceptance and prominence this year at the first ever African Diaspora World Tourism Awards ceremony held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The ADHT Bermuda Foundation was presented the award for Outstanding African Diaspora Heritage Trail. In addition the former Chairperson of the ADHT, and also former Premier of Bermuda, Dr. Ewart F. Brown, was inducted into the African Diaspora World Tourism Hall of Fame and was presented The African Diaspora World Tourism Person of the Year Award. So we invite you to join with other likeminded organisations including UNESCO, the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, the Africa Travel Association, the CRT African American Trail, the Southern University Department of African studies and representatives from around the Diaspora at this year’s 9th Annual ADHT International Conference in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA. As this is the first time that the ADHT conference has been held in the United States, the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission and the State of Louisiana have promised to make this a conference to be remembered!
