As Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, I had the honor to serve as an official teller during yesterday’s election for Speaker of the House. The election of the Speaker of the House is a time-honored tradition, one that stems directly from the Constitution. Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution states: The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers. Each Member votes for the individual who will serve as the presiding officer of the House and majority party leader. Every two years, the House fulfills this constitutional requirement and does so openly before the American people on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
