As Chris Knight sees it, Thoreau was a dilettante who stuck it out - TopicsExpress

As Chris Knight sees it, Thoreau was a dilettante who stuck it out alone at Walden for a couple of years. Knight lived a hermits life deep in the woods of central Maine for 27 years, stealing everything he wanted or needed from a hapless kids Halloween candy to a mattress and box spring. Every summer, like a bear, he fattened himself up for a long harsh winter in a tent. He never used a shower or a toilet, never touched another human, spoke exactly one word. He had his reasons. This is a memorable and compassionate piece of reporting, shot through with the hermits off-the-cuff poetry as he looks back on it all (The moon was the minute hand, the seasons the hour hand).gq/news-politics/newsmakers/201409/the-last-true-hermit?currentPage=1
