As Christmas draws closer we continue to enjoy Melissa at - TopicsExpress

As Christmas draws closer we continue to enjoy Melissa at Kentfield. She is doing well, just about as well as she has been since the shunt. We are happy she is stable. She is also enjoying us. We have had the opportunity in the last week to see her smile a lot, and much of that has to do with the contact she has with us as we train to learn how to take care for her, whenever the time comes to do so. One of the really fun things we enjoyed this week was putting her in the car -- the first time she has been in one since she could hardly walk from her car back in March because of her tumor. After Brian placed her in the car as part of our training, he said to her, See honey, now we can go on date nights. She smiled the smile of a woman ready for that, and one who loved her man. I told her she was a saucy minx. We all got a big kick out of that. As always, the staff at Kentfield have been top notch in training us. As weve said many times, we deeply appreciate them for their devotion to Melissa especially, but to all for whom they so professionally and compassionately care. As you can see from the two pics of Melissa, the staff goes beyond their calling. In this case, Petrona, the physical therapist assistant who gets more out of Melissa than any of us, also goes back to Melissa. She made the hat and the hair piece herself, and made sure that Melissa could irritate me by buying that Ginats scarf. Well, I was happy to put that on for this picture, mostly because it was given in love, but also because its from Petrona. The ginger bread houses are part of a contest at Kentfield to see who is the most deliciously crafty. Note that one of them actually has furniture -- made from pretzels -- inside. We are thinking a lot of the meaning of Christmas, in particular the generosity of spirit that always comes out. With these pictures, we would like to pay tribute to the hard-working staff and doctors at Kentfield for loving and caring for Melissa the way they have. We believe without them we might not have her with us, and we certainly would not have as much of her as we have. Finally, we continue to wish all of you the happiest of holiday seasons. We, in particular, have so much to be thankful for, and we would remind all of you that the same thing is true for you. Well keep you posted. Grace, Peace, and Love Papochka (for Brian and the family)
