As Christmas is fast approaching, I am reminded of great Christmas memories. Every Friday before Christmas is when our family would go into the woods in Pineville, Mississippi and cut down a cedar tree for our Christmas tree. When Shawn and I got off the bus, Daddy, Mother and I would get into our pickup truck, ride into the woods in search of the perfect tree. After we cut it down, wed bring it back to the house and decorate it. The smell of cedar would soon permeate the whole house. Fifty years ago this Christmas my birthplace, Leland, Mississippi began Christmas on Deer Creek. Local businesses and churches began sponsoring floats on Deer Creek which ran through the middle of town. As a boy each time we got in the car I would beg Daddy to go by the creek to look at the floats. He may have gotten tired of me asking but I never tired of looking at those Christmas floats! GREAT TIMES and MOST CHERISHED MEMORIES!!!
