As Dr. Martin Luther Kings birthday approaches, And for the sake of moving on, I try and bury the memory of all of the controversy when we were struggling to make this occasion a national holiday. The thing that I cant seem to shake is how the mainstream radio stations, in Chicago and the South, refused to play an Impressions record in 1968. The explanation given was that the lyrics would incite Black people to riot. That was in February of 1968. Well, as you know Dr. King died in April of 1968. In the aftermath of Blacks outrage, this record became a theme for the movement and today, 46 yrs later, stands as a source of inspiration and hope in the struggle of 2015......youtu.be/BLnd-Z01ONs
