As Helen Steiner Rice approached middle age, she began to notice drastic changes in her body and in her looks. Like everything else in life, she learned to take this in stride. Following are her thoughts on the subject. Handsome is as handsome does. . . And the fact that I looked like I used to was. . . Ill have to admit was a blow to my pride. . . But God likes me best when Im handsome inside. She was also concerned about drastic changes taking place in the world of the 1950s. Man can make an atomic bomb with great destructive power But God alone knows how to make a snowflake and a flower. Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. John 7:24: Stop judging according to outward appearances. I Timothy 2:9-10: Women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense . . .and with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God. I Peter 3:3-4: Your beauty should not consist of outward things. . . instead, it should consist of the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in Gods eyes.
