As I am going away in the weekend, trying to see the films I want - TopicsExpress

As I am going away in the weekend, trying to see the films I want to see before they leave the cinemas. Today... Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie and filmed in Queensland is the true story of Olympic runner, Louis Zamperrini who survives 45 days lost at sea then incarceration and unbelievable brutality at the hands of his Japanese captors before finally returning home. This is a story about a man with an incredible will of steel who could come from behind in a 5000m race to win gold, who would survive bullies, air battles, sharks... You name it, all the while motivated by his brothers motto: If you can take it, you can make it. I thought the film was really well rendered, emotionally charged, with great sets and great attention to the period. But.... I also found it literally heavy handed, an arduous experience with not enough light for the bulk of the movie, and at least 2000 fistfuls too much of dark. Yes, we got that the prison camp Japs were cruel but there was an unnecessary length of time spent on this part of the story. In the end it was wearying, I thought. I enjoyed it but I wouldnt rave about it. 7/10
