As I am thinking about worship this morning with my HDBC family, my thoughts are also with my former church family in Mississippi. They have lost one of the great ones. Elmo Branch went home to be with the Lord yesterday. Elmo was the lay worship leader in Duck Hill when I served as their pastor. He was a friend, encourager, mentor and brother in Christ. He demonstrated his love for my family on a daily basis. My kids will never forget the rides home from church in the yellow Toyota or the homemade snow shoes made from trash bags. Ill never forget the cold Christmas Eve when Elmo and I put together a trampoline. He was an extraordinary athlete, musician, churchman, deacon, prayer warrior and so much more. He was a pastors friend! Blessings to you my dear friend as you are enjoying the presence of your Savior. I can see that Elmo grin and imagine a tear in your eye as you bask in the presence of the Lord. Im sure How Great Thou Art has an even deeper meaning to you now! Im praying for his sweet wife. Jamie, may your loss be tempered by the unfathomable peace that comes from the Holy Spirit who lives in you. You are an example to generations of ladies who are coming after you. Ive watched you graciously care for your aging mother years ago and in recent years do the same for your husband. Only those who have navigated those waters can understand the difficulty in doing so. Yet you have done so with grace, mercy and perseverance. May God bless your days of widowhood with an ever deepening sense of His presence. The Hutchisons love you and Elmo very much.
