As I caught myself with one of Uncle Frank, Chief Frank Nelsons, - TopicsExpress

As I caught myself with one of Uncle Frank, Chief Frank Nelsons, songs stuck in my head last night, I thought of whether or not I wanted to seriously think about finishing my Masters in Social work at UBC so I can focus on Residential School Trauma and healing the indigenous elders as well as the second and third generations that are still lost from this like my father was for so long. Then, this morning, after I heard the news, I remembered the last moment I saw uncle Frank. He told me about his story of being a residential school survivor and the courage and strength he found to open up those hurtful times and how he healed. How important it is to forgive and grow to let go. I know i will never forget how much he meant to me. How loving he is and that he was always one of most generous people Ill ever know. What a great and powerful Chief he was. His spirit remains on his canoe I paddled and his love and effort to bring his Tlingit relatives back to canoe protocol, brought my canoe family back into canoeing and solidarity with Tribal Journeys. Those are gifts I can never forget. His songs will always keep him close to my heart when I miss him and feel down. His legacy is so grand, and he had touched so many hearts by being our Uncle. I love you uncle!
