As I exited the subway at Canal street today, I was confronted by a throng of teenage girls (and a few boys) standing in front of a giant black SUV- camera phones at the ready. It seems I got there just in time to see the car door open and watch four scraggly looking kids exit the car and get ushered into a building. I asked a woman who was about my age, maybe older, who these people were- and she said five seconds til summer or something to that effect. The fact that Im obviously getting too old to keep up with this sort of stuff didnt bother me as much as seeing one of these kids wearing a wool cap and jacket in this heat, or even half as much as seeing each kid exit the car with a completely full Starbucks beverage held conspicuously, so the logo could be in full view for the cameras to capture.
