As I expected Errani’s hopes for a repeat of last year’s final against Sharapova were crushed today by Serena Williams. Serena, winning in one of the fastest matches of the tournament, gave us her best performance so far. Sharapova - again with the ups and downs - started well but gave Azarenka some opportunities to get back into the match with a few more than usual mistakes and double faults. But in the crucial moments she was able to win the points that mattered and regained control in the 3rd set. Maria will definitely have to raise her game, lower her unforced errors all the while playing aggressive early in the points in order to have a chance against Serena.
