As I finished my traditional birthday dinner (a day early) at Tower Oaks Lodge (8th year running): Oysters and Sparkling Wine, Lobster and Chardonnay, finished with Heath Bar Cheesecake and Jim Beam - I reminisced my 45th year....not the past 45 yearS (that’s a lifetime), no, just the past 365 DAYS. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times....no, actually, it WAS the best of times. Truthfully, this was, perhaps, my favoritest year, EVER! Mid-life rocked me like a hurricane, though it wasn’t the Winds of Change that blew that Ford Expedition into the back of my Toyota...life’s fragility was soothed with a new Lexus. Along with the new car came came a new outlook on life. That, and the fact that the Black Eyed Peas were playing in the background, was just part, of what, got things started.... I ran a couple races, farther than I ever thought I could. Skied a few hundred thousand feet, more than I ever thought I would. Spent quality time with family, strengthening the bond of our common experience. Spent quality time with friends, connecting and re-connecting, with those that share common interests. Worked way TOO much, but eased that pain, with the pleasure of vacation and travel. Utah, California, Wyoming, Alaska, and Colorado. The call of the West, of the mountains, was loud in my ear. The best part of this past year, however, was not the races run, or the faces skied, not the shiny new car, nor the places see-ed, no, the best part...the truly BEST part of this past year is love that was bestowed upon me, and shared with me, by my girls - Christy, Faith & Josie. XOXO
