As I get ready to lie down in the comfort and safety of my home, - TopicsExpress

As I get ready to lie down in the comfort and safety of my home, in good health, belly full and glass of purified water in a glass next to me I give thought to some 100,000 people who will not make it through the night, to millions who will not rest well if at all, with hunger burning in their bellies and lips parched with thirst. Millions who have no bed to lie in or roof over their heads, no heat to keep them warm or even a blanket to cover with or a pillow to rest their heads on. I will think of those millions who lie in fear as gun shots and missals broadcast loud thunder in the night air around them. And I will not pray for them- I will be thinking of ways to bring a message- a message that we can do better. I will seek to draw attention to these millions and millions who we, as a prosperous well fed nation could feed and bring safety and peace to. I will be thinking of what I may do or say to change the way we think. To shake my fellow countrymen to the core, howbeit with their very own religious views or just to bring them back to basic human decency. Yes- someone, somewhere near you will go to bed hungry after working a minimum wage job for hours. Someone somewhere near you will be denied health care because our state will not fund the programs needed for their care. And they will lie in bed tonight in pain- choosing food or heat over a pain pill or other medical attention- without heat while we complain that our co pay rose and we had to dip into our savings or sacrifice that vacation just to help someone else. Yes I will remind you- day in and day out. I will use the one thing I have- my voice. And it will be loud and relentless. Until, I hope, we find in ourselves, as a collective group of decent human beings to stop being so self absorbed and self centered as to think that it somehow is humane to allow this outrage to continue.......
