As I have shared in earlier posts, while in high school Charlie - TopicsExpress

As I have shared in earlier posts, while in high school Charlie Roth employed me to run his filling station at St. rd. 9&26 during the evening hours. During this time in my life I met and was able to get to know many of Fairmounts finest. Certainly one of the finest was Ernest (Buck) Harvey. WW-1 veteran, generous, and one who loved to have fun. Buck worked on Sundays and sometimes would work on Friday to allow me to have a night to go on a date. He and Ike Florea (Liberty Twp. farmer and well known jokester0 who on several occasions got the best of Buck he certainly had a payback coming. Friday evening and Ike comes skidding in to the pumps, jumps out and tells Buck to fill er up. Im on my way to the lakes. then proceeded in to the restroom. Buck puts the hose in the tank and washes the windshield. Ike returns, Buck tells him he owes $12.50. Ike pays, Buck wishes him a great weekend. Ike jumps in his powder blue 62 Impala and squeals out on to St. Rd. 9. He ran out of gas a few miles north of Wabash. Seems Buck forgot to put the gas in Ikes car. If you knew Ike, you wouldnt feel too sorry for him. These were a couple of the men who made Fairmount in the 50s and 60s magical. May they both rest in peace and somehow know that writing this about the two of them has brought a little cheer to me on this Sat. night. God bless you all and have a Great week!
