As I left Urgent Care yesterday the nurse gave me Devs scripts and handed me a coupon. I opted for Walmart where lately antibiotics have been $7-18. I dropped off, and when I returned to get them I grabbed the coupon I had discarded to the floorboard, just in case... The one med was over $100. Yikes, wait a minute, I have a coupon. It took another 10 mins. worth of paperwork to use the darn thing, but with the coupon (Thank you UC!) it was only $25. I asked, Did you run his insurance, $100 seems awful high? She said, Yes, without his insurance it would of been $216. FOR 10 PILLS, it was $216! If they can sell a $216 med for $25 with a coupon and insurance, why not just sell it for $25? When I was a single parent and the kiddos were very young, $216 at one point in my life would of been the difference between that med and food for a month. When I was being raised by a single mom with 3 kids working 3 jobs and a mom that was totally unaware of state assistance, that would of been the difference between rent or utilities for the month. It breaks my heart that someone somewhere is having to make that choice! How can one pill cost over $20? JEEZ!
