As I look back & try to understand reasons for my success, I realized that at each & every important turning point of my life there were few things that I utilized which was taught to me by my teachers (parents, school teacher, subject teacher, bosses, seniors, peers & other colleagues). When I use the word- taught; I do not mean someone prepared a lesson material, & delivered it to me in a class room or in a training room, taught to me means; encouragement of good behavior, right character, right things & actions and discouraging bad things/bad actions. These are core values & competencies taught to us since childhood & I believe they are applicable in any type of organization on this planet. I would like to share a few teachings: • My mother taught me to take every one along, be good to others & do not harm others. • My father taught me to do hard work, never find excuses for not being able to do something, be honest & discharge your duties with dignity. • My junior school teachers taught me about grooming & respecting others. I remember we were asked to take a dip in chilled water during winter season if we were found not to have taken a bath. Respecting our own culture Vedas etc was taught in that school. • I owe my ability to impart training & making others learn to one of my teachers. • One of my ex bosses taught me to trust team members, create an environment to learn & deliver and encouraged me to find out unconventional ways to success. • Another boss taught me to continuously learn by reading , learn by observing. • One of my peers made me learn organizational dynamics. The list is endless, frankly speaking if I look back I learnt everything from others & therefore I believe experience is about learning & teaching is about creating those experiences. It is free from any time limit or any number of years of experience; at times learning happens in a blink & at times the entire life is not sufficient for it. Also we simply learn because of others experiences & learning’s they share with us, some one’s influence on us & we start mirroring it. Learning happens at every moment, we just need to be alert to let it enter our heart & brain.
