As I mentioned before, Ive upgraded a laptop so Ive reinstalled Windows. The upgrades were simple: - New Solid State hard disk for the operating system (Samsung 840 Pro) - Keep old drive for storage by replacing the DVD drive with a hard disk caaddy - Install 64-bit Windows 7 so the usable RAM jumped from 3GB to all 8GB Even though its a fresh system, so its bound to be faster anyway, the end result is... DAAAAAAMN !!! Were talking about some serious speedup. The solid state drive is really speedy, theres plenty of RAM to go around and everythings clean and tidy. Total cost: £85 for the disk and then 5 for the caddy (we need our movies) and the drive had to be replaced anyway... had a drop a month ago and I dont exactly trust it anymore. But itll be fine for secondary storage. The optical drive shall not be missed -- I doubt Ive used it 3 times in the last 3 years -- once Royal Mail (or China post) get off their arses and deliver! For now, I have to go back to the old Seagate and be patient... Heh... I feel I could write yet another article about this experience... oh, wait... :P
