As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was recruited in early 1975 by Emmys road manager, Steve Redfearn, to take promo photos of her at concerts in Southern California. Steve and I were friends at Cal State Long Beach, which would become a favorite place to play for Emmy. I shot photos of her until 1981, when she relocated to Nashville. Here is the first from an outdoor event in early 1975 in Agoura, California. It was in the initial days of the Hot Band, as well. This photo was picked up by Warner Brothers and used as one of her first publicity photos. It ultimately was used by hundreds, if not thousands, of publications around the world as her fame grew. It was used on page three of Melody Maker, which was the top music publication in the world at that time. I must confess that I didnt think much of the photo when I first saw it in the dark room, but thought I should submit it to her anyway. Turns out that she loved it. So what did I know! She told her manager, Ed Tickner, to have WB use it and they did. It was the start of a great relationship.
