As I mentioned yesterday, Im closely watching the possibility for a winter event late this weekend and into early parts of next week that could produce an ice storm across parts of eastern US. I realize much concern was initiated with this and rightly so. There are many moving pieces with this potential system and, again, all the puzzle pieces have to come together for this to pan out. That is why no specifics can really be nailed down this far out with any amount of decent accuracy. I havent posted any model data on this because they are all over the place. Model data is generally terrible this far out on understanding the behaviors of these types of winter events. Some things we need to continue to watch are the amount of cold air in place at the time this system were to develop, how far south the cold air will dip and how much moisture will be present to fuel this system. This becomes another extremely challenging forecast when all factors are considered and must fall in place. I will make a strong push to have an article update by sometime Friday evening with more details on this potential ice storm. Understand that meteorology is an incredibly complex science... every hour, minute and second of every day, variables change in this science and in order to put out a quality forecast, we must adapt to and understand these changes, why they are taking place and the impacts these changes have on our weather patterns and conditions...
