As I mentioned yesterday in a post I would be posting a photo of a Smoky Mountain Veteran. But before I do I am posting one of Wiley Oakley first. For those of you that have never heard of Wiley your really missing out. Ill give you a brief description of Wiley and his life. Wiley was was born in a cabin near the foot of Mount LeConte. Known to most as Roamin Man of the Mountains. People would hear of Wiley Oakley while visiting these beautiful mountains and he would give guided tours of these Smoky Mountain trails. A half a century ago the mountaineer naturalist was known to few outsiders. But became well known through word of mouth in Knoxville, Nashville and other nearby cities who sought guiding and camping services. Then came the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Pouring in tourists from all over Wiley sparked folks with his charm, tall tales, unique personality and amazing store of mountain folk lore.
