As I plan for my winter camping trip alone, I often wonder how many of you go camping in the woods in the winter? My head gets so full of stuff, sometimes I dont know what else to do in order to escape this madness... I go out there and find myself again.... Making a shelter, gathering firewood, making my bed and just sleep under the cold sky.... It started by accident during my awesome trips into the Colorado forest.... Feeling de-valued (if that is even a word) by a ex-girl, I packed up and took everything I thought I needed, a few 5ths of Jack, a bag of smoke and a sense of needing to find who I was. I drove to the edge of the woods, put on my pack and headed into the mountains. I hiked 5 hours in, made a shelter, gathered plenty of firewood, and smoked and drank the first night until I had my fill. I did a lot of yelling into the woods, throwing limbs and shouting obscure things. With 9 inches of snow on the ground the next morning, I had found some relief from the sadness I was feeling, so I stayed another night. Then I stayed one more night, again repeating as I had done the other two nights before. Going back to my room, I was stationed at Ft Carson, I decided I had found myself and faced the problem that was before me. I felt better and decided that she wasnt worth me worrying about, so I never spoke to her again...
