As I posted to the article noted in the link: As Ron Carroll noted, the Rockaway Beach Branch that is proposed for QueensWay would be MUCH better served for all if it were converted back to train service, whether as part of the LIRR as it was before or as originally intended to be part of a new branch off the Queens Boulevard Line, as I would most likely do it as a new (W) train running from Whitehall Street to Rockaway Park via the Broadway Line, replacing the (R) in Queens (which also would eliminate the need to operate the Rockaway Park Shuttle as this new (W) train would absorb that). The biggest benefit of the line would be for those coming from the Rockaways, as they would have a new, and easier option to get to midtown Manhattan along with those from midtown wanting to get to JFK Airport, the Rockaways or the casino at Aqueduct Racetrack PLUS serve communities that have NO train service at all AND ALSO could allow the LIRR to re-open the long-shuttered Woodhaven Road LIRR station on the Flatbush Avenue branch as a full-time station. As Ron noted, such a Rockaway Beach Line could provide connections to numerous other subway lines and be much more valuable as subway than as a new park. For those of you involved in Horse Racing, this is potentially very important as this potentially also benefits the horsemen who race in New York year round.
