As I probably dont have to point out, I like to keep people in my community informed of when I see police cars camped out, hiding, being used as revenue generation. I think its good when community members help each other out with that sort of forewarning information. I have plenty of family and friends who are law officers, and I appreciate what they do. There are dangers involved, but thats accepted in the job. On the other side of that coin, there are even more very good things they do for which they dont get recognition. But again, thats accepted when they accept their job. Ive seen my share of it going both ways. Police are humans, just like cashiers, bank tellers, receptionists, whatever. Sometimes youll run into a nice one, sometimes youll run into a nasty one. Anyway, bla bla bla, wheres the point? Right here. I witness police doing plenty of things that I dont like. I usually publicize it, because people deserve to know whats happening. But it isnt often that I get a chance to commend someone in their position. They do plenty of commendable things every day. Its their job. But thats just it, a job, and they dont get recognition for it. Today, however, just before I began typing this... I saw a police officer show up at a convenience store. I can assume he was called there to address the situation of a bum that was loitering out front with a huge luggage bag. I didnt get to hear much of the verbal exchange between them, but I did hear that the guy wasnt allowed to hang out right there any longer. The officer said You didnt do anything wrong, you just cant stay here. So the guy began collecting his belongings to leave as the officer walked toward his car. Officer got into his car, and rolled the window down and shouted to the man, who was now starting to walk. The officer got out, walked to the man, looking like he was reaching for his handcuffs and yelled for the man to stay where he is. No hand cuffs, though. I was witnessing a police officer reaching into his own wallet to give money to a man in need. Yeah, bit of a long story, but I thought it should be shared.
