As I read through all the new posts, every day I see so many people looking for work or wishing they worked at something that made them feel good and earn a great salary. So many wishing they felt good about going into work everyday and so many contemplating changes in schools, going back to school, completing degrees, but wondering if it will do any good in this day and age. I have been exactly where you are. I made the change. I jumped right into the deep end. Where I was at the time was no worse than drowning, so I had nowhere to go but up. Best decision I have ever made. What I do is challenging and ever changing and exciting and tiring. One needs to be somewhat of a perfectionist, blinded by misspellings, offended by bad grammar, and think it is fun to learn how to completely take a sentence apart and define each part of speech. And to learn new medical and legal terminology, well, that makes my whole day just perfect! The court reporting industry is in dire need of reporters. 60 percent of all reporters are retiring in the next five years and there are not enough working and new reporters to take their places. This is a growing industry in an age where other industries are dying. The problem is that it is so difficult and challenging, most people are not interested in putting in the effort it takes to learn it. It is the hardest thing I have ever done. All I can say is that I have never been this happy, this satisfied, this hopeful. I love this job! I know some of you could do this. Be brave!
