As I recall, one of the things about the last (Labor) government - TopicsExpress

As I recall, one of the things about the last (Labor) government that really bugged Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey, apart from the carbon tax was the mining tax. Apparently the idea of multinational corporations operating in Australia, digging up all of our natural resources and yes, admittedly, employing Australians in the process, but having to pay tax to the Australian government for the privilege of being able to do so was anathema to the ideals and principles of the Liberal and National Parties and they got rid of that irksome tax on the plunderers of our soil. So, now that he is Treasurer and he is blocked in his efforts to charge pensioners to see the doctor and it looks like just about every other move he has devised to make the poor pay the way for the rich, including funding his scheme to pay rich women to have babies and stay at home with them on their astronomical wage, courtesy of the taxpayers, Joe Hockey has now discovered that there are these awful multinational people operating in Australia without paying any tax. Lo and behold, there they are, right under his nose. He probably isnt game to include the mining companies yet because our memories arent quite as bad as he would like them to be in his desperation to make his draconian Budget take as much out of the pockets of the poor as possible, but given time and distraction we might just forget abc.net.au/news/2014-12-09/tax-crackdown-on-multinationals-hockey/5953782
