As I reflect on the Team Canada auditions and just watching dancers in general during practice in all my travels: You can tell who is gonna seperate themselves from the pack in the first 15 mins ( in a good way ) and here is how they do it and it is pure evidence of what you need to do to be a champion or have a career in dance and make your team better. 1) They are focused in class , no distraction, they dont talk 2) There is no fooling around or joking around or games when choreo is being taught, you never have to quiet them down. 3) Every move they do is like watching them on stage. There is no Practice effort or Marking it , its always 120% during practice. 4) They dont ask 140,000 questions , they figure it out themselves by watching the choreographer exactly how it is supposed to be done. 5) They come prepared to class each day or week by KNOWING their choreography fully and could compete it that day. This shows RESPECT for their team members and teacher because they are not behind and the class can go forward. 6) AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE MOST IMPORTANT AND IT WILL ALL BE IN CAPITALS - THEY PERFORM IN CLASS........................... THEY PLAY THE CHARACTER, THEY HAVE FACIALS AND MOVE LIKE AS IF THEY WERE ON STAGE. WITHOUT THAT THERE IS NOTHING 7) The min somone tells you I dont do facials in class but i always do on stage, even ask my mom or my teacher........ That is the beggining of the end of your dance career and you need to really re-think that TOXIC way of justifying your laziness or lack of effort in class or in an audition. The ZOMBIE face is simply arms, feet and legs moving and it is painful to watch in practice and it will lead to the stage everytime..... 8) Dont come to class to come to class. Each class is your opportunity to get better . Use your classes to your advantage and take them seriously and have fun while you are doing it. Be a leader and show that you are focused and the rest will follow. WHAT YOU DO IN CLASS WILL ECHO WHAT YOU DO ON STAGE EVERY SINGLE TIME .... PERIOD Dancers. The min you decide that you will take practice seriously and PERFORM like you are on stage.... You will see your dance career take off and with no limits. The ones that never get better do the complete opposite of what is written on this list. I have witnessed it for almost 13 years of teaching now and that is how the Pros seperate themselves from the sheep.
