As I rocked my child to sleep earlier, a sweet sequence of thoughts danced through my mind. I ran my one, free hand along the side of the rocking chair that i had chosen months ago in the anticipation of his arrival. I was three months along then, and lost my lunch soon after bringing it home on that nauseated evening. While singing to him as we swayed back and forth in that special chair, I looked around us at the room that sentimentally stared back at us. His wooden crib, his little elephants, the chair that held us, his name in bright green letters. This time last year, I was praying for the reality that is happening - right now. For the perfect baby fighting sleep in my arms. His nine week ultrasound picture looked at me sweetly through its frame, and then my vision blurred with a stifled tear. I have my happily ever after, right here.
