As I saw those few rain drops fall today I was reminded of that horrible night in July 2003. The night before my Dads funeral. It came out of nowhere, this unbelievable rolling thunder and flashing lightening. I was staying overnight with Mom and the rain began to hit the windows and as we watched the drops slide down those glass panes, it seemed as if the heavens were opening and all of the sadness was falling all around us. The thunder was like a pounding drum and the lightening, the accompanying cymbal crashes and we commented to each other that this was Dads entrance, his parade, as he entered Gods paradise. What a hard, sad, sleepless night. I had no idea that I could ever cry that many tears... And yet, in the morning, knowing that I was going to have to be strong for Mom, I got us dressed and headed to the car. And Mom, in the early stages of Alzheimers, said not a word until we got to the exit of the freeway where the cemetery and service awaited, said, lets skip this and go to Disneyland knowing full well that we could not.
