As I sit here on Wednesday morning (I think) on the porch of our hotel in Mykonos and reflect, it is fair to say we had an eventful day yesterday. Ill try and keep it as brief as possible but Im sure that, as we were by the end of yesterday, youll all be having a laugh. As background for those who arent aware Ralphy had her purse pinched a couple of weeks ago and, while upsetting, has been manageable as Mick Dawes has been drip feeding money to her. A fine arrangement until Mick lost his wallet a couple of days ago at Amalfi! So since then both have been speaking to Credit Card Cos and Banks for replacement cards with varying degrees of success. Now you have the background. It was an early start (read 4.30am) to meet our new best mate in Athens (Markis the taxi driver) for our ride to the port to catch the ferry to Mykonos. I think Markis desperately wants to be a F1 driver but nonetheless we arrived safely and after we found our boat we soon departed for the 6 hour ride to Mykonos. We arrived safely, albeit a little jaded, a bit after 1pm local time. We join the taxi line and are soon on our way to Mykonos Beach Hotel, although Im not sure our luggage will make the trip (photo to follow). We arrived at the hotel fine, as did our luggage, and Aileen Ralph (Ralphy) shot up the stairs to see if her card had arrived as planned. The rude lady behind the counter (aka RLBTC) confirmed she had received a call from the card company but told them she had no booking in our names! STRIKE ONE. Rightfully so, Ralphy was very upset as her well laid out plans were out the window and the RLBTC showed no empathy whatsoever. We check in and wander up to our room. What was supposed to be a two bedroom unit was more aptly described as an oversized dog box! It was set up as a loft up a six foot ladder and upstairs or downstairs were 5.5 foot high at best. With the lower bed being under the loft and neither Mick or I being lightweights the prospect of death by falling body was considered very real. So Kylie Curwood, being our resident problem solver, trotted down to the office to have a chat to the RLBTC. I wont go into the full exchange but it is fair to say Ky went from lets work to find a solution to very annoyed after the exchange. STRIKE TWO - upsetting my lady! While all this is going on Mick is on the phone trying to get his cards replaced and Ralphy remains upset. After a brief discussion with Ky I head down to the office to see the RLBTC, while calm I may not have been in quite the conciliatory (is that how you spell it?) mood that Ky was. Again without going into all the banter, suffice to say I did not use any rude words and there were no punches thrown, the RLBTC asked that we vacate her establishment and find other lodgings! With my parting words being the internet is a powerful tool RLBTC and apologies to my touring party it was time to find new lodgings. At this stage poor Ralphy is now worried about being homeless as well as broke and I am swearing all sorts of internet revenge against the RLBTC (as well as profusely apologising to my touring party for perhaps overplaying our hand!). I have a wise mans words ringing in my ears - what doesnt kill you makes you stronger (thx Frankie Masters). Anyway, Mick and Ky move into solution mode and find us rooms at San Antonio Summerland Hotel who as well as being amazingly helpful also send their transfer guy to come and pick us up. Ride arrives, Im still apologising, and its off to our new digs we go. Well did we fall on our feet or what (photos from our porch to follow)! Steffi and Efi (no Im not joking) behind the counter could not do enough to help these now very weary travellers. Im so happy I give my new BFF Efi a hug and a kiss, Andreas (I hope hes not Efis husband) greets us with drinks, I again apologise to our group and accom is in place. We have a pool, a 2 hourly courtesy bus, views of the water, a day spa and the RLBTC at the Mykonos Beach Hotel has a vacant room. Toot toot is that the Karma Bus I hear! News looking better for Mick and Ralphy as Mick soon has a plan in place and no-one is going short. We had a swim then caught the 6pm bus into Mykonos, I apologised again, had a nice meal then it was home on the 10pm as we were all done. You may not believe it but this is the brief version. We are all fine and new digs are great. Love to all Dean and Ky xx PS Well done to the Golden Boy (he knows who he is) on his victory. Were all behind you fella.
